When it comes to styles, there are many to choose from. In this article, I want to talk about a few that I personally find beautiful and feel that impacted residential architecture. If the style of home you are looking for is not on my list, don't worry. I'm sure I will be following up with a blog on it soon.

The Craftsman House, this style of home, flourished during the 19th century. They are embracing the Arts and Crafts movement of the time. Typically identified by their low-pitched gable roof with overhanging eves and exposed rafters and beams, these homes have a way of harmonizing with their environment. Craftsmen's houses embrace horizontal lines and use natural materials such as stone and wood planks to make up the building envelope. Typically, you will find the use of color to be very warm. Colors like olive green, natural brown, and red accents are a few that are popular for this style. Craftsman homes also provide a very custom feel to the interior with built-in spaces such as bookcases, cabinetry, window seats, and fireplaces, and it's the type of home that can easily be made your own. Its traditional open floor plan concept, front porches, and tapered columns make a bold yet beautiful architectural statement regarding residential design.

The Spanish Colonial House, Took its inspiration in late 1600 after explores initiated the Spanish settlement in America. The Spanish colonial style can be found throughout California. They are easily recognizable due to their smooth stucco or stone exteriors and tiled roofs. Typical architectural moves such as arched doorways, entryways, and windows are exclusive to the Spanish colonial style. Other features of a Spanish-style home are courtyards, high windows (arcades), and colorful tile patterns around water fixtures and niches.

The Modern Home, the concept that less is more, has been used countless times in architecture; from my days in the classroom to over a decade in the design and construction industry, this phrase helped pave the way for the Modern Home. Modern homes are identified by emphasizing clean and straightforward geometrical shapes doing away with ornamentation and embracing the idea that less is more. Modern Homes Celebrate natural lights through the use of large windows. They lean toward the use of natural materials as well as natural color pallets. Grays and whites with natural wood all play a role in making a bold statement for this style. Like other styles, the Modern Home Removes all unnecessary walls to provide an open floor plan concept. These Characteristic create a clean and peaceful place that can help remove you from all the noise of the outside world and give you a quiet and peaceful place to call home at the end of the day.
